Penjelasan:
Ketiga tenses ini mengandung kata "continuous" (berkelanjutan/terus-menerus) yang mengandung makna bahwa yang dikerjakan itu masih berlangsung.
Dalam Past continuous tense, kondisi masih berlangsung itu dilihat pada suatu titik di masa lampau. (Dalam contoh si atas adalah "when my mother came home last night" (ketika ibuku pulang tadi malam). Jadi kalimat ini bermakna bahwa ketika ibu pulang tadi malam, saya sedang menonton film . Jadi kegiatan menonton itu masih berlangsung ketika ibu pulang, tadi malam (masa lampau)
Dalam Present continuous tense, kondisi masih berlangsung itu dilihat pada suatu titik masa kini atau sekarang (yaitu pada titik waktu ketika sipenutur mengucapkan kata ini).
